My experience here was poor. The older gentlemen was abrasive and rude about rules and regulations. Their approach to dealing with situations lacked any sort of professionalism and I will not return. Quiet time is supposed to be after ten when our music was playing at 9 (not loud at a moderate volume) we got in trouble and got told to turn it down. Camping in BC should not be a control fest but rather a good time. These folks should take the time to educate people about our coastal rainforests and provincial parks rather than being rude and controlling. I have grown up camping and traveling in BC at numerous provincial parks and this site was the only one that we were treated with no respect.

It's a small campground, most sites have partial shade but they have a list of the features of sites - she can help if you're looking for sun, or need a site large enough for certain size RV. Also she called me back when I left a message which doesn't always happen with campgrounds in my experience. They have quiet and spacious sites but the male half of the couple managing was more than a little intrusive. He came by and took over our fire before we started and lit it for us with a propane torch which irritated me since I quite like lighting my own fires and look forward to it. (No it wasn't a rescue effort for a smoldering mess we hadn't started yet.) He seemed intimidating to me and strikes me as former military - he was basically constantly patrolling the small campground, we were only there 2 nights and he stopped to "talk" to us a number of times. I forget what it was about but it was intrusive and controlling. Also there's "quiet hours" which they enforce about music and campfire chatter but they are quite allright with creating a racket in the middle of the night to break camp and make the ferry (it leaves at 7 or 730 and they insist you're there 2 hours early - so that means a bunch of noise around 4-5 am) I wouldn't want to try and sleep in a tent there. One night it's everyone arriving at midnight from the ferry and then leaving at 4am to make the ferry. The next night it's quiet..... not a good place for an enjoyable vacation it's just a budget place to stay when travelling by ferry in and out of Port Hardy. They have a wood shed but you had to sort through it to find dry wood, no complaints about the sani station, hot showers are nice and clean and there's trails along the river on both sides for a little walk. There is laundry but I didn't use it so I don't remember the price/or what the machines were like. Oh and if you want to fish salmon out of season they seem to look the other way - a large family was there tenting (therefore no sinks) and they kept eating fish and cleaning up in the laundry room and nothing was said to them - no way they bought that at the grocery store.

  • Under new management. Very friendly and helpful. Checked in after midnight - no problem. Offered assistance with printing service, and use of phone for personal business. Very nice. The campground is awesome with the very tall trees all around.
